Video: Accelerating Bible Translation for the Jiru

Here’s a short video I put together from my trip to Southeast Asia last year with The Seed Company. I helped set up a satellite internet connection and netbook in a remote village, and trained Mando (the main translator) how to use it.

I captured this footage in between the rest of the IT work, and recorded the background music one day when they eagerly shared some of their favorite songs with ukulele accompaniment.

Geeky Details: Shot with a Canon 5D Mark II, Sennheiser MKE 400 Shotgun Mic, 50 f/1.4, 24-105 f/4 IS, 70-200 f/2.8 IS, 16-35 f/2.8, and Velbon carbon fiber tripod. Background music recorded using an Olympus DS-30 digital audio recorder.

Recent Photography Work

I’ve done quite a bit of photography recently even though I haven’t updated this site much. On Sunday I took portraits of the Moothart family at a nearby park. The active boys were definitely a challenge, but very fun at the same time.

A couple months back I helped Heather Fuqua shoot a wedding down in San Diego.

In July I took photos for a news story about Hollywood’s 20th Century Props and owner Harvey Schwartz.

The latest issue of The Seed Company’s Seedlinks publication features more of my photos as well (including the cover shot).

Finally, I’ve been posting quite regularly to the FOCUS photo blog.

Some of my photos from my last trip to SE Asia have been published in the latest Seedlinks magazine: the cover photo, along with the photos in the “Remote Possibilities” and “Working Together a World Apart” articles. Volcano Panorama Published Online

Greg Peters’ Ordination

Last week was a busy one for photography, as I also shot photos at the ordination of Greg Peters at Blessed Sacrament Church. The low light is always a challenge, but at the same time it’s a beautiful church so that makes it rewarding.

Last week Jeff Silzer and I setup our gear in someone’s house to shoot formal portraits for The Seed Company board and leadership team. I think the shots came out great, and it was a good experience especially since I haven’t done much with studio lighting before.
